ONE LESS CHILD
Has to Put Their Belongings into a Trash Bag
At Fostering Dignity, we aim to uplift the self-worth of children being removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. We provide backpacks to Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) investigators. These backpacks are then given to children as they enter the foster care system. While this is a subtle gesture, we believe it can make all the difference in a child’s life.
To the children, it’s more than just a backpack. It’s a dignified alternative to the current use of a trash bag. Amidst the chaos and confusion of removing that child from his or her home, the backpack is something they can call their own.
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
“Imagine that child putting his belongings in a trash bag while leaving everything familiar, and a stranger taking him to a foster family of strangers. No child should ever receive the message that his precious belongings are garbage. A life so fragile, so confused and abused… We need your help to serve this invisible child.”
